School Crossing Guard Job Description

Qualifications:

    1. Ability to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
    2. Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
    3. Ability to work with school age children.
    4. Willingness to work outside in all kinds of weather.

Reporting:

1. All complaints will be reported to the Crossing Guard Coordinator.

2. All situations, that occur while on duty, will be immediately reported to the Crossing Guard Coordinator.

Such as: traffic violators, parent complaints, problems with children, or school personnel.

3. All Absences (each day of the absence) shall be promptly reported to the Crossing Guard Coordinator.

Job Goals:

To assist in providing safest possible access to and from school, so that the students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage of the curriculum provided by the Chambersburg Area School District.

Performance Responsibilities:

The primary duty of the School Crossing Guard is to supervise and give instructions to the students, for the safest possible crossing. Crossing Guards are to be monitoring the area around the crossing for emanate danger and reminding the students of stranger danger.·

  1. Directing school children to cross the street without unreasonable delay when the crossing is safe.
  1. Controlling vehicular traffic as necessary, to ensure the safe crossing of school children.
  1. Informing motorists (through appropriate hand motions) that children are about to cross.
  1. Reporting motorists who fail to comply or chose to put the children at risk, by violating provisions of the law governing the movement of vehicular traffic.
  1. Maintain and uphold the highest standard of personal conduct and appearance while carrying out the responsibilities of their position.
  1. Crossing Guards will at all times maintain a polite and courteous attitude, while on duty.
  1. Crossing Guards will at all times maintain the equipment in a neat and clean condition.
  1. Crossing Guards are to be expected to be at their post on time (as stated by their assigned time) each day that school is in session.
  1. Crossing Guards will call in all absences to the school they are assigned and to the Crossing Guard Coordinator.
